Delete your account

You can delete your BackSignal account and its data at any time. There are two ways — from inside the app, or by sending us a request.

From inside the app

Open BackSignal and make sure you are signed in.
Go to the Profile tab.
Scroll to Delete account.
Confirm when prompted.

Your account is locked out immediately and your data is queued for permanent erasure.

By e-mail

If you have uninstalled the app or cannot sign in, e-mail us and we will delete the account for you.

Request deletion by e-mail →

Include the e-mail address you signed up with. We may ask you to confirm from that address so nobody else can delete your account. We action deletion requests within 30 days.

What we keep, and for how long

Deletion records. A minimal record that a deletion took place — the request and its date, without your health data — so we can show the request was honoured. Kept up to 12 months.
Encrypted backups. Deleted records may persist in routine encrypted backups for up to 35 days before those backups roll over. They are not reachable through the app and are not used for any purpose.
Anonymous, non-identifying data. Aggregate counts that cannot be linked back to you may be retained.

Deleting data without deleting your account

If you want your health records erased but wish to keep your login, e-mail us and say so. We will clear your screening history and diary entries and leave the account in place.

Revoking health permissions

iPhone: Settings → Health → Data Access & Devices → BackSignal → Turn Off All.
Android: Health Connect → App permissions → BackSignal → Remove all permissions.

Revoking access stops future reads. It does not delete data already synced — use one of the options above for that.
